We were so busy talking with colleagues at the ASM NCB meeting Oct 4 - 5 that we only got to taking a lab photo after the posters were already down. Chloe Dondlinger was till busy talking with colleagues, so she missed this photo op.

SDSU was well represented with people from the Butzin, Karki, Nanjundaswamy and Kaushik labs.

Sukhvir K Sarao and Yasir Afzal presented their work at the annual South Dakota EPSCoR Research Symposium in Sioux Falls on July 31 - Aug 1, 2024.

Congratulations to Sukhvir K Sarao for being awarded a travel award from the Biology and Microbiology department, which helped towards traveling to Hawaii. Sukhvir presented her recent work on Bradyrhizobium species distribution in soybean soil and rhizosphere at the ASPB 2024 meeting. Held in Honolulu, Hawaii, this marked 100 years of the American Society of Plant Biology.

Congratulations Dr Armaan Kaur Sandhu on a stellar Ph.D. program! We were so excited that we did an unofficial graduation right there and then! From left to right: Johnathan Orosz, Sukhvir Kaur Sarao, Dr Sandhu, Volker Brozel and recent graduate from the lab Dr Bikram Das.

Armaan presented her Ph.D. seminar on Friday March 22. So fun to see all the undergrads you have mentored come to listen. It was a joy to see how you have grown into a strong independent scientist!

Volker spent Feb 5 - 9 on research discussions with collaborators Fanus Venter and Emma Steenkamp of FABI at University of Pretoria. During a "coffee trip" they got inspiration from stone man.

They were advised to continue working on Bradyrhizobium diversity and fitness in soils.

The excitement doesn't stop there – Sukhvir received a well-deserved third place award in the graduate oral presentations category, while Kallie was awarded third place in the undergraduate poster presentation competition. Way to go, team! 🎉🏆👏

Armaan received an exhilarating Travel Award from Corteva, and she seized the amazing opportunity to deliver an oral presentation at Corteva's Student Showcase during the sensational ASPB Annual Meeting held in Georgia in 2023!

She ventured solo, so there's no "her-in-a-picture" to picture here! 😄📸

Vincent, a Summer 2023 REEU student, successfully wrapped up his research project with the expert guidance of Sukhvir. This experience marked a significant milestone for Vincent as it was his very first exposure to a research lab! 🌟🔬

Dr. Brozel shared Armaan's research poster at the American Society for Microbiology's Microbe conference in June 2023, hosted in Houston, Texas.

Four students from the Brozel lab proudly represented our lab at the SDEPSCoR annual Investigator meeting held in Sioux Falls in 2023. Notably, this event marked Vincent's very first poster presentation, and the excitement was palpable! 🌟👏

Armaan and Sukhvir were both thrilled to participate in the Don Auger Travel Award during the exciting 2023 Days of Scholar event. To top it off, Armaan was awarded the well-deserved travel prize! 🎉🌟

Dr Bikram Das created this beautiful painting on nitrogen, and gifted it to the lab. Its been placed next to the lab entrance.

Undergraduate Research journey of McKenzie Brown Ended.

McKenzie, successfully completed and submitted her Honors research thesis on "Understanding phenotypic properties for Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA 110".

Poster Presentations and Research Talk at ASM-NCB annual conference 2022 at Grinnell College, Iowa. Armaan was awarded second prize in oral talks by graduate students, and McKenzie received third prize in the undergraduate poster presentation competition.

Congratulations to Dr. Bikram Kumar Das on successfully defending his dissertation! He's all set for graduation. Wuhooo! 🎉👨‍🎓🌟
